General Information

Preschool education, primary education, secondary education, college education and some other forms of education at schools and educational institutions are regulated by the Act No. 561/2004 Coll. ,on preschool, primary, secondary, college and other forms of education as amended in later enactments and other legal enactments. (See Education Act )

Education system in wording of the Education Act consists of school and educational institutions which can be established by:

• Regions, Municipalities and Municipal Unions (establish public educational institutions)

Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports - MSMT

Ministry of Defence

Ministry of the Interior

Ministry of Justice

- all the above mentioned institutions establish national educational institutions

• Registered Church and Religious Communities (establish church educational institutions)

• Other Legal and Physical Entities (establish private educational institutions)

Individual Municipality's Areas of Competence:

• execution of local autonomy in education, in compliance with; education development plans, educational services development, general interests of the public,the needs demanded by labour market, demographic trends and development of the municipal territory. Providing their availability based on the needs of each municipality.

• providing such conditions that lead to fulfilling school attendance (administered by Primary Schools)

• Towns and municipalities further establish Nursery Schools, Primary Art Schools, educational facilities for extracurricular activities and facilities for school catering

Region's Areas of Competence

• executing local autonomy in education, in compliance with; education development plans, educational services development, general interests of the public,the needs demanded by labour market, demographic trends and development of the municipal territory. Providing their availability based on the needs of each region.

• providing such conditions that lead to effectuating of secondary and tertiary vocational education, education of children and students with disabilities and special needs, foreign language education, basic education in the Arts, extracurricular activities and spare-time activities and provision of institutional and juvenile correctional Education

• Karlovy Vary Region is the instituter of High schools, Colleges, Nursery schools and Primary schools for childern with disabilities, Special Needs Primary schools, affiliated schools to health care facilities and hospitals, educational and correctional dormitories, facilities for school catering, Language schools providing state language exams, Primary Art schools, educational facilities for extracurricular activities and education council facilities.
