In comparison with other regions of Czech Republic, the human resources in Karlovy Vary region consist of relatively young population with lower then average educational attainment (this can be attributed to the number of university-educated people, which is lower then the national average). There is also a higher number of foreigners living and working within the region. There is a number of specialized secondary schools, which have focused for decades on education in traditional fields and areas that are typical for the region. In the recent years several new institutions, mostly tertiary education institution, have emerged alongside these traditionally oriented educational institutions. These institutions were founded in the recent past and nowadays continue in developing their scope of action and competence. Despite the fact that the region is the least populated region in Czech Republic (however, slight long-term population increase has been detected), its geographical location and the ongoing construction of road-traffic infrastructure makes it a very attractive place for investment, business and living.
